One of the security issues has already been used in attacks in the kernel — or the heart of the phone’s operating system, according to Forbes.

“Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited,” Apple’s support page reads.

The new system, iOS 16.1, is available for iPhone 8 and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 5th generation and later, iPad mini 5th generation and later.

iOS 16.1 comes a few months after iOS 16 was released and two weeks after the latest security update iOS 16.0.3. That version was aimed at fixing another vulnerability.

If you need help with the upgrade, follow these directions from Apple:

Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly

1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.

2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.

3. Go to Settings > General, then tap “Software Update.”

4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.

5. Tap “Install Now.” If you see “Download and Install” instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap “Install Now.” If you don’t know your passcode, learn what to do.
