Person of interest in mother’s death now dead after shooting himself

Tulsa police say the person of interest in Thursday’s homicide shot himself outside the home where the victim was found.

Police say the investigation into Carol Longacre’s murder is ongoing at this time.


Update 10/08/2021 – Tulsa police made contact with Tommy Carmichel Thursday night around midnight.

After about a 20 minute chase, police say Carmichel got out of his car and tried to enter the home where Carol Longacre’s body was discovered.

TPD says as officers moved in, Carmichel shot himself in the head but survived.

According to police, Carmichel is in the hospital in critical condition.


Original Story – Tulsa Police are searching for a person of interest after a woman’s body was found inside a bathtub.

Officers responded to a home near South Rockford and East 59th Street on Wednesday night.

When they arrived, officers say they found the victim, Carol Longacre, dead in her bathtub. Longacre’s car was also missing.

Longacre’s son, Tommy Carmichel, was supposed to be at her home at the time.

Officers say they made contact with Carmichel during a traffic stop, but he ran from officers, starting a chase.

The chase ended near Chandler Park on W. 21st Street. Carmichel was able to run away into the woods and was still hiding as of Thursday morning.

The park was shut down temporarily after an initial sweep to make sure there wasn’t anyone in the park who marched Carmichel’s description.

The park has since re-opened.
