Tulsa has a high fire danger until 8 this evening

The National Weather Service says conditions are ripe for a very high fire danger due to high winds and low humidity today.

Meteorologist Mark Plate at the National Weather Service office in Tulsa tells us the greatest fire danger includes Tulsa County and elsewhere.

"Fire danger will be elevated in the Tulsa area and also areas to the west of Tulsa this afternoon and again Friday afternoon."

Plate says any fire that gets started could spread quickly.

He says the wind will die down during the later part of the weekend and a chance of rain will also move in, affecting Tulsa and areas to the west.

A fire weather alert is issued when dangerous conditions are expected, but conditions are below what qualifies for a red flag fire alert.

"Bottom line is, be careful and any fire that gets started could spread quickly, both today and Friday afternoon."

Plate says the high fire danger alert expires at eight this evening.

"Looks like conditions may improve a little bit over the weekend as the winds diminish somewhat and we start seeing some chances of rain moving into the area, especially from Tulsa to the west."
