Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office to host free teen driving course

TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a free Teen Driving Course that focuses on critical driving skills and techniques for new drivers.

The 8-hour class is designed to teach teenage drivers how to avoid accidents through a variety of advanced driving skills such as recovering from hydroplaning, braking hard during emergencies, and more.

The course will also teach students the basics of how to maintain their vehicle, such as changing a tire, checking their oil, and other important skills.

TCSO is using the same driving course that law enforcement officers in Oklahoma use to complete their CLEET Law Enforcement Driver Training (LEDT), but at slower speeds.

Drivers who complete the course will receive a certificate that may be given to the driver’s/parent’s insurance representative for a possible reduction in auto insurance cost.

TCSO says this is the first time they’re offering a course like this, so they’re keeping the class size small.

15 spots are available, students are REQUIRED to bring their OWN car, the car must be insured, and students must have had their license for at least six months.

The class is being held on Saturday, April 29, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Armory Hall at the Tulsa County Fairgrounds. The address is 3902 East 15th Street in Tulsa.

Lunch will be provided and students will also get a free t-shirt.

TCSO says they’ve applied for some grants and are hoping this first course goes well so they expand the program and offer larger class sizes multiple times a year in the future.
