Severe weather threat higher on Thursday as cold front pushes through Green Country

TULSA, Okla. — Chances for severe weather in Green Country are elevated Thursday as a cold front moves through the area.

The National Weather Service Office in Tulsa is forecasting large hail and strong winds as the primary threats.

Hail could be up to a golf ball in diameter and winds could reach speeds of 60 to 70 mph.

The National Weather Service says the highest chances for severe weather in Tulsa County will be between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Storms are expected to arrive later in the evening and night in areas further south and east of Tulsa County.

The Weather Service says the threat of severe weather in southeast Oklahoma could persist into early Friday morning.

A very low tornado threat will be present in Tulsa County and much of eastern Oklahoma throughout Thursday’s and Friday’s storms.

One to three inches of rain is forecast in areas along I-44 and I-40, with four to five inches possible in parts of eastern Oklahoma.

A Flood Watch has been issued for much of eastern Oklahoma. It goes into effect Thursday afternoon and lasts until Friday evening.
