Security preparations underway downtown for president Trump’s Saturday rally

TULSA, Okla. — Law enforcement is working on their upcoming plan to provide maximum security for President Donald Trump's rally in Tulsa.

The Tulsa Police Department says they will be working with the Secret Service to provide maximum security for Trump as the country is in a state of unrest.

They say to expect significant restrictions to roads in the downtown Tulsa area from Thursday to Saturday.

Tulsa police will be partnering with local, state and federal agencies including surrounding city and regional law enforcement and other first responders as well as the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and special operations teams.

Tuesday, law enforcement officials announced the national guard has been called into assist.

Tulsa police say streets will be barricaded and cars will not be able to enter a 2-3 block area around the BOK center starting Thursday until Sunday morning.

Police say the security of this event will be even bigger because of the current unrest in our city and across the country right now.

Hundreds of law enforcement officers are expected to be stationed across the city -- the largest presence in the area where the rally is being held.

Police say they will release as much information as they can in the days to come, so citizens can prepare for the event, but they want people to know that many of the security details will have to remain private due to the safety of the president.

Police say they are planning for the day to remain peaceful, but will be prepared and will respond appropriately if that doesn’t happen.

Police say you need to plan on not being able to park anywhere close to the BOK center for the rally. They say to make other plans.

The secret service will be running a security checkpoint in order to get inside the barricaded area on Saturday. Every person who goes inside that area will be will be screened.

Tulsa area law enforcement has experience with a high ranking government official coming to town for a rally.

Vice President Mike Pence came to Tulsa to speak at a rally for now-Governor Kevin Stitt in the fall of 2018.
