Scorpion found at KRMG studios likely a sign of greater presence

We had a visitor to the KRMG studios this week that none of us wanted to see.

It was a two inch long scorpion.

In the lobby right next to our elevators.

The horror.

Now it's a two inch long dead scorpion.

"It doesn't surprise me."

Brian Jervis is a horticulturalist with the county extension service. He says he did see an increase in the number of scorpions brought into his office for identification last fall so an increase in the scorpion population now would seem logical. Jervis adds, "For the most part, they won't affect us. There's not too much poison there that will knock us down."

Tara Pearson with Mother Nature's Pest control says there are some scorpion hot spots, "around Sand Springs, Creek County and Muskogee."

But, as we found out, scorpions live in the city too.

Pearson says "61st and Sheridan. We have about five houses on a street over there that all we do is service for scorpions."
