‘Cheeto residue’ helps Tulsa police arrest suspected burglar

TULSA, Okla. — Everyone has seen or experienced the leftover dust from Cheetos on their fingers or stuck in their teeth.

Tulsa police officers recognized the Cheeto remnants Friday night while investigating a burglary.

Police were called about a woman breaking into a home with two children inside near 67th Street and Sheridan around 8 p.m. on Friday.

Officers found that the suspected burglar had pried the screen off of a window of the home to get inside. Police say she left without stealing anything or hurting anyone.

Police say they found a bag of Cheetos and a water bottle on the floor near the open window, leading them to believe the person they were looking for dropped them on the way out.

The victim identified Sharon Carr as the woman believed to have broken into the home.

Police say Cheeto residue in Carr’s teeth further linked her to the crime.

“A good reminder that Cheeto dust can be pretty hard to get rid of,” the Tulsa Police Department wrote on Facebook.

She is facing charges of first-degree burglary.
