Broken Arrow store owner hides in safe, calls 911 during armed robbery

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Three men have been arrested, connected to an armed robbery in Broken Arrow.

Police say it happened at the Buzzin’ Cannabis Company around 10 p.m. Monday night, near Elm and New Orleans.

One of the suspects was armed with a gun, another with an airsoft pellet rifle.

Owner Mac Shayya says he, along with two employees, were closing up when the door opened. He saw three masked men.

“They came in and they were yelling we want everything, we want all the weed, all the money, we want all the cash, just dump everything, don’t play games with us, all the threatening stuff,” said Shayya.

In all, Shayya says they got out with $1,000 in cash and $10,000 in products. But, they didn’t get far.

“They spent a good five minutes trying to take anything they can out of this place and by the time they walked out the door, the police were waiting for them,” said Shayya.

Shayya was able to grab his dog, lock himself in the store’s safe, and call 911. He says he was concerned for his employee’s safety.

“I was more worried for my young guys who were working here. I mean they don’t need a gun pointed at their face at ten o’clock at night,” said Shayya.

Shayya has owned the store for two years.

All three suspects face first-degree robbery charges. Police say this robbery happened in a popular area of Broken Arrow, one that is usually busy.

“It was poor choice of spots for a robbery,” said Public Information Officer Chris Walker.
