Tulsa police find body in east Tulsa pond

TULSA, Okla. — UPDATE (10/27/22 9:15 A.M.) — Tulsa police said they found the body of a man who jumped into an east Tulsa pond while handcuffed Thursday morning.

Police were looking for the man in the pond at an east Tulsa apartment complex, after he escaped police custody and jumped into the water naked and handcuffed.

Tulsa Police Cpt. Richard Meulenberg said officers were called to the Shoreline Apartments near East 21st Street and Interstate 44 for an intrusion alarm around 4:45 a.m.

Meulenberg said the man reportedly used a brick to smash a window at the apartment complex’s club house to get inside.

Meulenberg said the man was completely naked, and officers handcuffed him behind his back. The man kicked open the back door of the club house, ran onto the balcony and jumped into a pond at the complex.

Officers went in the water after him but they weren’t able to find him. A dive team recovered his body hours later.
