TULSA, Okla. — Today the Tulsa Expo Center, the Tulsa County Commissioners, the Tulsa Drillers and former players dedicated a plaque at the Tulsa County Fairgrounds.
The site is the home plate in the original baseball stadium at the Fairgrounds.
Several former players who played in the stadium were on hand for the dedication.
Ted Davis, a former pitcher for the GCL Rangers and Tulsa Drillers said that it was an honor to play there. He also said that thinking of Lou Gehring and all the other greats who played there is phenomenal.
“The baseball park was a Tulsa landmark for six decades,” said Tulsa County Commissioner, Stan Sallee. “Baseball has a long history here, and Tulsa County is happy to be a part of this dedication.”
The final game in the stadium was played in 1980 as the new Sutton Stadium was opened just a few hundred yards away.
