Teenager traded puppy for shotgun used to kill 8-year-old brother, police say

BALTIMORE — An 18-year-old was charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of his little brother.

The Baltimore Police Department said in a news release that officers were called to a home on Dec. 30 for a reported shooting. When officers arrived, they found 8-year-old Dylan King had been shot. King was taken to a hospital where he died a short time later.

Investigators said that Devin Wilson, King’s older brother, was in another room of the house wearing clothes stained with a large amount of blood, WBAL reported. Wilson had been watching his four younger siblings, ages 2 to 8, in the home when Dylan was shot.

In court documents obtained by WBFF, police said Wilson called his mother immediately after the shooting, asking her to come home because King had been shot. When his father came home, Wilson allegedly told him that King had accidentally shot himself.

Police said King was shot in the back, head and shoulders, WJZ reported.

Investigators said that Wilson recently expressed an interest in shooting guns and legally acquired the gun, WMAR reported.

In charging documents, Wilson’s stepfather told police that Wilson traded a puppy for the shotgun, WBFF reported.

While the gun was purchased from an unknown person, the sale is considered legal because Wilson is 18, has no known criminal background and the pump-action shotgun is not considered a regulated firearm, according to WBAL.

Wilson was arrested on Jan. 17 and charged with first-degree murder, police said.
