The storm is not expected to reach land or affect the U.S., according to WJAX-TV and WFTV.

As of 5 p.m. Saturday, the storm was slowly moving toward the northeast with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, according to the NHC. Forecasters said they expect the storm to gradually weaken Sunday before dissipating by Monday.

The Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1 and runs through Nov. 30. Officials with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said Thursday that they expect the season to be “above-normal,” though less active than the 2020 season.

According to NOAA, 14 named storms, seven hurricanes and three major hurricanes are typical of the average Atlantic hurricane season. Forecasters expect between 13 and 20 named storms to form this year, with between six and 10 of those storms strengthening to hurricanes.

In 2021, there were 30 named storms and 13 hurricanes, according to WFTV.
