‘I like young peeps’: School bus driver accused of soliciting sex from a minor

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — A South Carolina school bus driver was arrested after investigators said he traveled to meet a minor for sex, but instead found an undercover detective.

Bryan Wesley Rogers is accused of traveling to Lexington from Spartanburg to meet a minor for sex, Lexington police Chief Terrence Green told WYFF. Rogers had unknowingly been speaking with an undercover detective.

The Spartanburg School District told WHNS that Rogers was hired as a bus driver in February 2020 and was immediately fired on Friday after the district learned of his arrest. The district told the station that administrators also personally contacted the parents of children who rode on Rogers’ route to tell them about the charges.

Green told WYFF that Rogers reached out to an undercover detective over social media, believing the profile belonged to a young teenage girl. When the undercover detective told Rogers her age, he responded by saying, “I like young peeps,” Green told the station.

Green is accused of trying to arrange a meeting at a hotel for sex and sending nude photos of himself as well as pornography, WHNS reported.

When Rogers arrived at the meeting location, he was arrested by officers with the Lexington Police Department, WYFF reported. Rogers was charged with attempted criminal conduct with a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor, attempted unlawful dissemination of obscene material to a minor and attempted criminal solicitation of a minor.

Rogers appeared in court on Friday and was given a personal recognizance bond on all charges, Green told WYFF.
