Disney Cruise Line extends cancellations again

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. — Following a September announcement that voyages would be canceled through the first half of December and a November follow-up that trips through January would be canceled, Disney Cruise Line has extended cancellations again.

According to Orlando-based WFTV, the company said sailings are canceled aboard the Disney Magic through Feb. 25, the Disney Wonder and Disney Dream through Feb. 26 and the Disney Fantasy through Feb. 27.

“Our team at Disney Cruise Line remains focused on the health and well-being of our guests and team members,” a company spokesperson said, according to WFTV. “We continue to carefully review the guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and are working toward resuming operations.”

Travelers who booked trips during the affected time frame will receive a cruise credit to be used for a future sail or a full refund.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a No Sail Order in March and has continued to provide updates throughout the year.

Citing a January Diamond Princess cruise in which one infected person spread the coronavirus to 712 people aboard the ship, or about 20% of passengers and crew, the CDC has warned “cruise ships would continue to pose a greater risk of COVID-19 transmission than other settings.”

The CDC plans to keep the order in place until the Secretary of Health and Human Services declares that COVID-19 no longer constitutes a public health emergency or until the CDC Director rescinds or modifies the order based on specific public health or other considerations.
