Veterans endure homeless conditions to help tornado victims

(SAND SPRINGS, Okla.) – The tornado that ripped through Sand Springs last week killed one person and left behind a lot of damage.

On Friday, the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office contacted Rex Lee to see if he would be willing to house and feed veterans from surrounding states who wanted to help with debris removal.

Lee runs a faith based ministry called Veterans Outreach International that helps veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and other problems.

“I’ve got 18 people sleeping in my office because they come prepared to sleep on the floor,” said Lee.

A friend dropped off an RV. Area churches are chipping in for meals. Lee used his own money to rent two port-a-potties.

The veteran’s group plans to stay for a few days. The trip is on their own dime, so they could use any help they can get.

Lee says QuikTrip gas cards would help get the crew from place to place.

He could also use some cash to reimburse some of the money for the port-a-potties.

If you'd like to help with the cleanup effort or the ministry, email Rex Lee at leenamvet@aol.com.
