University attempts bubble wrap world record

Students and staff at Oral Roberts University attempted to break a world record Monday morning.

The record they tried for is the most people simultaneously popping bubble wrap in two minutes.

“We need about 1,000 people to break the record.” ORU’s Jeremy Burton told KRMG.

The current world record is held by Twin Lakes Elementary School in Elk River, Minnesota. The school gathered 942 people to simultaneously pop bubble wrap in May 2014.

Burton said it was quite the effort to get set up for the attempt.

“We’ve actually cut about 6,000 square-feet of bubble wrap for this.” Burton said.

They ended up with a little more than 1,100 people on hand to help break the record.

It was all recorded on video and that has to be sent to Guinness to verify they broke the record.

They should know the results in about 12 weeks.
