(OKLAHOMA CITY) – A bill, approved by the House of Representatives Tuesday, would make it easier to take a firearms safety course. Oklahomans who want to carry a firearm could take the required gun safety course online.
The House voted 88-7 for the bill by Republican Rep. Casey Murdock of Felt.
Rep. Felt says he expects an increase in the number people applying for a license to carry a gun if the bill passes in the Senate.
The Oklahoma Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training would take charge in setting up the online course. Voice-recognition technology would be used to make sure the right person is taking it.
Live-fire training with a certified instructor would still be a requirement.
The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration.
