Florida man scratched by black bear

GULF BREEZE, Fla. — A Florida man was on his porch Wednesday evening when he was attacked by a black bear, wildlife officials said.

The man was scratched on his chest but was not seriously injured, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials said.

He declined medical attention.

When officials arrived at the scene, no bears were present.

Wildlife officials have set up traps to capture and then euthanize the bear.

"If the target bear is captured, we will humanely kill it, as its behavior is a risk to public safety," Bekah Nelson, FWC spokeswoman said in an email to The Associated Press. "Non-target bears will be released."

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
