Woman listed on Tulsa’s most wanted arrested after police chase ends in a crash

TULSA, Okla. — A woman listed as one of Tulsa’s most wanted now sits in the Tulsa County jail.

Officers had been searching for Kawaun Hopkins for months. She was wanted in connection to a string of burglaries in 2021.

On Monday, officers tried to pull over a stolen Chevy Malibu near S. Newport and E. 64th Street. Hopkins was later identified as the driver. She initially pulled over, and her passenger put his arms and hands out of the window.

However, Hopkins decided to drive away. She sped through neighborhoods and drove through stop signs. Eventually, Hopkins ended up in a ditch. Officers say they ended the chase over safety concerns.

Officers spotted Hopkins in the Chevy minutes later, driving north on Peoria. They say Hopkins turned into a parking lot and crashed into a pole. The passenger continued to put his arms up.

After the crash, officers say Hopkins jumped over the passenger’s lap and out of the window. She tried to run away, but officers were able to take her into custody.

But, not before Hopkins allegedly tried to bite an officer.

Hopkins was taken to the hospital to be checked out before she was taken to jail. According to the police report, Hopkins fought with officers at the hospital as well.

She faces multiple charges, including hit-and-run, resisting arrest, obstructing justice, eluding, false impersonation, not having a driver’s license, and first-degree burglary.
