TULSA — A couple of hotly-contested city council seats in Broken Arrow got settled by voters Tuesday, while several municipalities like Bixby decided whether to expand fire departments or other key infrastructure.
In the end, BA voters decided to oust one incumbent; Ward 2 Councilor Craig Thurmond, who’s served as a councilor and mayor for nearly 20 years, lost decisively to Lisa Ford.
In Broken Arrow Ward 1 incumbent Debra Wimpee managed to avoid defeat, but did not poll more than fifty percent over her two challengers, Cathy Smythe and Jonathan Kelly.
Bixby’s four bond issues all appeared to pass easily, which means among other things the city will construct and equip a new fire station.
A number of area districts held school board races, including one seat on the TPS board.
