Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting local small businesses that create jobs, boost the economy and preserve neighborhoods.
In 2010, American Express created Small Business Saturday in response to small business owners’ most pressing need: more customers.
“As we begin the holiday shopping season, I encourage Tulsans this Saturday to support our local small businesses,” Mayor Bartlett said. “Tulsa’s economy is growing this year, and we can help keep it growing by shopping locally. Shopping at Tulsa’s small businesses keeps people employed at these businesses, and the local sales taxes provide City services for residents of Tulsa.”
KRMG spoke with the co-owner of Fleet Feet Sports in Tulsa to find out why it’s important to support local businesses.
“It’s important because my husband and I are in this community.” Lori Deiling said. “We live and work in this community… We support the community.”
She says people need to realize that when you shop locally, your money stays in Tulsa. When you shop at a big-box retailer or online, it doesn’t.
