Tulsa native, iconic musician Jimmy Karstein dies

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa native and legendary drummer Jimmy Karstein has died.

Karstein’s spanned more than five decades and he performed at venues across Tulsa, including the iconic Cain’s Ballroom.

He also performed on the Ed Sullivan Show with Gary Lewis. Karstein has also made music with Eric Clapton, JJ Cale, Joe Cocker, Taj Mahal, the Everly Brothers, and Danny Baker.

Baker, of the Danny Baker Band, said Karstein was a Tulsa treasure. The duo played more than 1,000 shows together.

“He meant the world to me, he introduced me to all the greats,” said Baker.

Karstein was 78.
