City working group discusses mask ordinance as vaccinations pick up

COVID-19 Vaccines | KRMG

TULSA — City officials met Friday to discuss the ongoing mask ordinance, and whether it can be modified in light of recent trends.

Mayor G.T. Bynum told KRMG Friday afternoon that the “unanimous” consensus among the members of the group was that it’s too early to relax public health measures, just when it appears we may be finally turning a corner in the pandemic.

Tulsa city officials say there are questions about whether the science supports dropping the mandate, and how such a change could impact overall compliance.

Broken Arrow passed a mask resolution earlier this week on Tuesday night in a close, 3-2 vote by Broken Arrow council members, but has never enacted any kind of mandate regarding masks.

The mask mandate in Tulsa has been in effect since July of 2020.
