Nowata County Commissioners name Interim Sheriff

NOWATA COUNTY, Okla. — During an emergency meeting Wednesday Morning, The Nowata County Commissioners named Mirta Hallett as the interim sheriff.

The commissioners also accepted former sheriff Terry Barnett's resignation after she resigned on Monday along with most of her employees.

Right now, the Nowata County Sheriff's Office does not have any deputies.

The new Sheriff Hallett hopes to have deputies back by Wednesday night, because there are currently only three dispatchers and two jailers on staff.
