New restaurant opens in historic Philtower

Tulsa's Philtower continues its evolution as a mixed-use development with the opening of Edward Delk's bar and restaurant in the lobby of the historic downtown high-rise.

Owner Hunt Hawkins said the restaurant serves a need that he knows firsthand, having lived downtown for a couple of years recently and not having any place to grab a meal in the immediate neighborhood.

"I had nowhere to go except for Domino's at some point," he said.

The Blue Dome and Brady districts have accumulated a sizable collection of eateries, but in the core business district where the Philtower is located, Delk's is still somewhat unusual.

"Downtown needed it," he said.  "We want there to be a downtown happy hour again, y'know a strong one, and this is the perfect spot for it."

Edward Delk was the architect of the Philtower, and one wall of the restaurant is adorned with a huge rendition of one of his Philtower blueprints.

Chef Tuck Curren, from the Biga and the Local Table restaurants in Tulsa, is handling the menu for Edward Delk's, which is open for both lunch and dinner.
