Union members at the Tulsa maintenance base for American Airlines say the International Brotherhood of Teamsters is raiding other unions.
In a statement obtained by KRMG, the Transport Workers Union says, “TWU, which represents aircraft mechanics and other maintenance workers at American, will put our record against the Teamsters any day of the week.”
Local members site their record with the bulk of its aircraft in-house and in the United States.
Workers say, “If you really want to study Teamsters’ representation in the aviation sector, buy a plane ticket to China, where most of United Airlines’ aircraft are repaired.”
Statement by TWU Pres. James C. Little on Teamster Raids:
If you want to learn about IBT's campaign of misinformation, you don't have to travel to the Far East. Look at what they promise US Airways workers on issues like reopening a contract before it is amendable or their lack of knowledge about seniority issues when they talk to workers at American.
Join the Teamsters, and a worker pays higher dues to belong to an amalgamated local where aviation workers are lumped together with Costco employees and truck drivers. Furthermore, the IBT is not democratic and independent but is under a quarter-century of very hands-on government oversight.
It's a sad history. The Teamsters dropped out of the AFL-CIO, claiming they wanted to devote more resources to organizing. Instead, they devote their time and efforts to hurting the labor movement; through their parasite-like efforts, they help management.
