Department says farewell to a good boy

Fri, Aug 18, 2017 — It has been a sad week in Bixby, for members of the police department.

Their beloved K-9 of 6 years and 5 months, Louis, had to be put down.  He was a dual-purpose K-9, who helped the force with gun and drug arrests.

The department saluted Louis as he entered River Trail Animal Hospital.  A final call went out over the radio, signaling he had passed.

“People don’t realize sometimes, how much of an asset a K-9 is to law enforcement,” an officer said.

He was the department's only K-9.  They will now rely on the assistance of other agencies, when a K-9 officer is needed.
