Crystal City and Route 66 Carnival kicks off in west Tulsa

A nine-day carnival featuring 18 rides, fair food, game booths and more kicks off Thursday in west Tulsa.

This is the second year for the Crystal City and Route 66 Carnival, and it's bigger and better than last year's event, which won an award for best community event in 2011.

Ronnie Leighton, Office Manager for Pride Amusements, says there is a lot for people to see and do, and four food trucks, including a brand new one which features hamburgers and hot dogs on a stick.

The carnival is also designed in part to bring awareness to efforts to rebuild this historic west Tulsa area.

Organizers include the Southwest Tulsa Chamber of Commerce, Tulsa County Parks, Chandler Park Partners, and the Southwest Tulsa Education Initiative.

It runs from April 5 through April 14.

Hours Monday through Friday are 5 pm to 10 pm. Weekend hours are 1 pm to 11 pm.

Wristbands for rides cost $20, and are good for the entire 5-hour session on weekdays or 1 of 2 five-hour sessions on weekends.

There is no charge for admission.

The location is in 4200 block of Southwest Boulevard.
