Girl Scouts take part in cybersecurity event at TU

TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa hosted a special event on Saturday that brought Girl Scouts to campus to teach them the importance of online security.

The Girl Scouts learned about passwords, steganography and encryption.

TU student Samantha Phillips said the cybersecurity badge workshop is a great opportunity to expand the cybersecurity profession.

“Cybersecurity is a male dominated field, and so getting girls involved in it at a young age is important to help expand it to women and to grow the field because there is a shortage of cybersecurity professionals, so we need to start building up that community starting at a young age,” Phillips said.

Nineteen girls took part in Saturday’s event.
