Summer travel: AARP has discounts on everything from gas to hotels, available to any US resident 18+

TULSA — Many people assume that only people 50 years of age or older qualify for membership in the AARP.

Barbara Shipley, Senior Vice President of Brand Integration for the non-profit, tells KRMG that age requirement is 18, not 50.

The organization’s trying to get the word out to younger Americans that - especially in times of inflation and economic uncertainty - the discounts and advice offered by AARP can add up to thousands of dollars a year.

It recruited a well-known Tik Tok influencer Zachary Burr Able to help spread the word to his 1.5 million subscribers.

“I specialize sort in deals, tips and tricks, and just basically making your aspirational travel dreams come true, and just life hacks in general,” he told KRMG. “One of the ones that I thought was particularly interesting was not only the deals and discounts and benefits of AARP membership, but the fact that you didn’t have to be 50 to join - and I thought that combination was just magnetic.”
