Pryor High School highlights healthy, unique options at lunchtime

PRYOR, Okla. — Pryor is home to companies like Google, Canoo and other tech companies. It’s also home to some of the healthiest school lunches in Green Country.

Pryor High School students have 14 options for lunch, and 7 for breakfast. Anywhere from a salad bar, build-your-own-sub, to cultural food like tacos and Korean food. The options change daily.

Director of OPAA! Food Management Services at PPS said they wanted to give students a set up like a food court to have options. OPAA! has been in the district since 2018, but the options have changed since then.

“Before with COVID things were pre-packaged, more of a to-go. Now we’re back to fresh self-serve they can build their own trays and as you can see we have display trays at every line and that’s what a kid can build and have,” she said.

Looney said OPAA! is a family operated business and Pryor joins more than 300 other Midwest school districts, including 59 in Oklahoma where OPAA! serves its healthy lunches.

She adds, if kids eat well, they’re more likely to perform better in school. Looney said participation increased by more than 18 percent in the district.
