UPDATED: Progress made getting security lanes open at Tulsa International Airport

Update: (06/11/2024) People can still expect long lines Tuesday morning at TUL.

TUL recommends arriving at least two hours before your scheduled flight departure.

The airport posted a statement on the wait times:

“TSA is experiencing longer than normal wait times. We recommend arriving at least 2 hours prior to your scheduled departure to ensure a smooth travel experience. Thank you for your understanding!”

People are used to having relatively quick check-ins through security at Tulsa International Airport, but that was definitely NOT the case today.

Airport officials say TSA had some equipment trouble on two of their five security lanes, and it was creating some major backups.

At one point, airport officials say they only had one working security lane.

The equipment problems involved the scanners where passengers load their luggage onto a conveyor belt to be screened.

Earlier today, TSA was recommending that people arrive at least two hours before their flight, even THREE hours before the flight if possible.

Around noon, a long line of passengers was seen stretching from the security checkpoint in the middle of the airport, all the way down the corridor to the exit from the Terminal B gates, about 300 feet away.

But around 3:00 p.m., airport officials said they had three working lanes and said the situation was much improved, saying that arriving two hours before a flight should be sufficient to get through security and board flights on time.

Airport officials said they were still in the process of getting a fourth lane working again.

“We have technicians on site, we have equipment and parts that have been ordered and have been delivered, however I cannot give you a specific timeline as to when everything will be resolved,” said Patty Mancha with the Transportation Security Administration.
