First state law allowing guns in classrooms is passed

Governor Dennis Daugaard signed the law today. It approves teachers and volunteers to carry in the classroom.
There are laws that are somewhat similar in other states but none that specifically says they can carry.
In all nearly half the states in the US are looking into laws that are similar but none have yet been passed. Many of those came out after the shootings in Sandy Hook, Connecticutt.

 South Dakota had heated debate in the legislature, with both sides throwing punches. Those against it said it was dangerous, but proponents pointed out that rural districts and others who are long distances from police departments would benefit greatly.

There is an out built into the legislation as well. Each school will be able to opt out of the program if it wishes.
