FEMA will pay for all COVID funerals in the U.S., but people aren’t asking for the money

TULSA — The Federal Emergency Management Agency has millions of dollars to distribute to families who need to bury a loved one due to COVID, but it appears most people remain unaware that the help is available.

Money from the CARES Act and the American Rescue Plan is available to reimburse up to $9,000 per person in funeral expenses.

The process is fairly simple, according to Ed Michael Reggie, founder and CEO of Funeralocity.com, a company which offers a free service comparing the costs of funerals.

He says only 40% of families who qualify have even applied for the funeral assistance.

He also warns that scammers can easily target families through death notices, and that the only way to obtain the benefit is by calling FEMA at 1-844-684-6333.

If someone calls, claiming to be from FEMA or to have the ability to help obtain money for funeral expenses, hang up - and call the number listed above.
