City Manager: Bell’s is not coming to Broken Arrow

Broken Arrow City Manager Michael Spurgeon broke some major news during the weekly BA Breakdown segment on the KRMG Afternoon News with Skyler Cooper on Tuesday.

Spurgeon, responding to a question from a listener, said the company that was in talks with the Bell family to reopen the beloved park in Broken Arrow informed the city that they no longer plan to do so.

Furthermore, the company said it intends to sell the land where the park was to be built.

Plans to reopen Bell’s had seemingly stalled after an announcement in November 2021.

“They never submitted an application.” Spurgeon said of Santa Cruz Seaside Company Inc, the company that was planning to revive Bell’s. “I do think they seriously looked at it, but right now they say they’re going to be focusing on other properties within their portfolio and they will not be pursuing an amusement park here.”

Spurgeon said Santa Cruz Seaside informed him of their intentions via email, saying if the land doesn’t sell, they’ll hang onto it and consider other options in the future.

Bell’s closed in 2006 after 55 years at Expo Square in Tulsa.
