KRMG has spoken to a family member of the missionaries in Haiti who were killed by gang violence.

Travis McCrate says his nephew and his nephew’s wife, Davy and Natalie Lloyd, were attacked and killed by gangs Thursday night in Haiti.

McCrate says his family has been missionaries in Haiti for more than 30 years and they have an orphanage there.

Missions In Haiti was founded in 2000 by David and Alicia Lloyd and is based in Claremore, Oklahoma.

“At some point something happened that turned it deadly and turned it violent and in a situation like this there’s no one left to tell us exactly what happened,” said McCrate.

McCrate says he believes the orphanage was burned to the ground after the fight.

A longtime worker at the orphanage, Jude Montis, was also killed.

Now the family is asking for help from the U.S. government to get the bodies returned so they can be laid to rest here.

Missions in Haiti Inc. provided updates while in Haiti and the posts share details on the chaos in the country involving ongoing gang violence.

Missouri State Rep. Ben Baker posted about the incident saying his daughter and son-in-law were killed.
