VERDIGRIS, Okla. — On Sunday evening, a car was hit by a train near E. 540 Rd. and S. 4110 Rd. in Verdigris.
Officer Thomas with the Verdigris Police Department said they were first called around 5:20 p.m.
According to Thomas, witnesses reported that a car drove around the crossing barrier, which was already down, and was hit by the train.
“They said the car just went right around the arms and got struck by the train,” he said.
Thomas said it is possible the driver was driving under the influence.
He also said the driver was taken to a Tulsa hospital in stable condition with minor injuries.
