1 dead in Harper County officer-involved shooting

HARPER COUNTY, Okla. — Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Harper County on Thursday.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) said on social media a suspect is dead, and a Harper County deputy was taken to OU Trauma Center in stable condition.

OHP said it is assisting the Harper County Sheriff’s Office and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI).

About an hour and a half later, OSBI provided more information about the shooting with their own social media post.

OSBI said Harper County Deputies responded to a location in northern Buffalo on Nov. 24, around 6:30 a.m.

The suspect, armed with a shotgun, tried to enter the location and eventually left on foot.

Deputies later found the suspect at a nearby intersection.

OSBI said the suspect opened fire on the deputies, striking one.

The deputies returned fire and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputy who was shot was taken to an Oklahoma City hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

OSBI said the name of the subject will not be released until the suspect’s next of kin is notified.
