LAND O' LAKES, Fla. — A Florida man won a $235 million Powerball jackpot becoming the state’s youngest winner of the prize.
Thomas Yi, 23, of Land O’ Lakes, won the March 27 drawing, lottery officials said.
Yi decided to take the lump sum payment of $160,038,447.27. He said that despite his newfound wealth, he plans to continue going to college to pursue a degree in business or the medical field.
“Even after matching all six numbers, I was in disbelief and took my ticket to a retailer to have it checked,” Yi said. “The clerk at the counter instantly became excited and kept repeating that I had won the $235 million Powerball jackpot. I knew then that this would be life changing.”
He bought the ticket from a Publix in Lutz. The store gets a $95,000 commission for selling the winning ticket.
