KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A curious dog in Kansas City has prompted an investigation, after finding human remains in its owner’s backyard.

A spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department told The Associated Press that the home’s resident called police on Sunday morning after his dog found skeletal remains.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death. Officials told The Kansas City Star that they do not yet know the age or gender of the victim, or how long the remains have been in the yard.

“That’s really scary and really weird,” Carlos Lopez, a neighbor, told WDAF.

“It’s really scary, ‘cause, like, we haven’t experienced anything like this in our past,” Ashly Cix, who lives next door to the home, told WDAF.
