1 dead, 2 injured in mishap involving 2 aircraft at Laughlin Air Force Base

One pilot died and two others were injured Friday morning in an “aircraft mishap” on a runway at Laughlin Air Force Base, officials said.

The incident, which involved two T-38C Talon trainer aircraft, happened around 10 a.m. Officials did not immediately share details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Officials did not immediately release the names of the pilots involved in the incident.

One pilot was airlifted to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio in critical condition after the incident. The other injured pilot was taken to the nearby Val Verde Regional Medical Center in Del Rio, Texas, where they were treated for their injuries and released.

“Losing teammates is unbelievably painful and it is with a heavy heart I express my sincere condolences,” Col. Craig Prather, commander of the 47th Flying Training Wing, said in a statement. “Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with our pilots involved in this mishap and their families.”

Air Force officials said Friday evening that an investigation into the crash is ongoing.
