TULSA, Okla. — A woman is in jail after Tulsa police say she stole a red Dodge Challenger and crashed out in midtown.

Police say the woman stole the car from a neighborhood near 51st and Lewis around 11 p.m. Thursday night.

Sergeant John Woods tells us friends of the car’s owner saw it happen, and a few of them hopped in a different car to go after the stolen vehicle.

Sergeant Woods says those friends followed the suspect to 21st and Lewis. Woods says the suspect almost hit through-traffic as she passed through the intersection.

Woods tells us the suspect then crashed into a concrete sign outside of a chiropractor business close to 21st and Lewis.

“One of the witnesses said that the car was probably doing about 90 miles per hour when it wrecked,” Woods tells us.

Sergeant Woods says the suspect tried to run but was caught and bit by a K-9 officer. She was taken to the hospital for the injuries she suffered from the crash, and is expected to be okay.

Woods says the victim is a Navy veteran who only had the car for about three weeks.
