RSU Esports team won their first national title

CLAREMORE, Okla. — The Rogers State University (RSU) Esports team won It’s first NECC National Title.

The school formed the program in 2018, the first Esports program in Oklahoma. This was their the first year competing the in the National Esports Collegiate Conference, where RSU played against 90 other teams.

RSU’s Esports program played against 38 colleges and universities totaling 63 matches in their regular Oklahoman Association of Collegiate Esports season.

Team captain for RSU’s Esports Valorant team, Victor Holleyman said, “we ended up knocking out the number one seed and we were three.”

Brandon Irby, Director of Communications for RSU said, “this is just the beginning for our program there’s more to come.”

He says he got his team an ace, which is when someone kills all of then opponents, which secured the win for RSU.

“This was only our first year in this league and we brought home the championship. This will be a season I will never forget,” said Holleyman.
