Thunder name Billy Donovan as new head coach

Former University of Florida coach

Just a few weeks after the team fired Scott Brooks, the Oklahoma City Thunder hired Florida’s Billy Donovan as their new head coach.

Donovan has championships in his past, winning two national titles with Florida.

He made the controversial move of accepting a job with the Orlando Magic, then changing his mind the next day to stay with the University of Florida.

“Everybody tells me you’re not gonna believe this place on game nights.” Donovan said.

Donovan told reporters at the announcement that he’s excited to be in Oklahoma.

He stressed that it's going to take a lot of work and that he alone is not the magic ticket.

"I'm here as the head coach, but it's really about the players, it's about the organization, it's about where I can put value." Donovan replied.

When asked if the fans can expect a championship next season, Donovan replied:

“No shortcuts… Whatever it takes to be the best we can be for ourselves.” He said.

The Thunder fired former coach Scott Brooks after seven seasons, which included multiple conference tiles and one NBA Finals appearance.
