Red Cross opens shelters for flood victims

Residents react to flooding

The American Red Cross opened multiple relief shelters across Green Country Sunday for people displaced by Saturday’s storms.

For those in the Tulsa area, Edison Prep School on 41st Street is available.

For those in Creek County, the First United Methodist Church on East Taft Avenue in Sapulpa is available.

“My boss calls me and says, man, are you all right?” Farr said. “I’m like, what are you talking about? I open the front door and I go, oh my god. Here it is.”

Mickey Farr lives near Park Street and Washington Avenue in Sapulpa, an area that was still underwater on Sunday.

Farr’s garage is surrounded by standing water but he can’t venture in to check out the damage until the water recedes.

“I’ve never seen it this bad, that’s for sure,” Farr said.

Kelly Welker of Sapulpa lives in the same area.

“I walk outside and I was just blown away, because I have never seen flooding like this,” Welker said.

People drove up to the area all day to scope out the flooding and take pictures.
