Jenks girls win it all in national e-Cybermission competition

They took top honors in the entire nation with their invention

The results of this year's eCYBERMISSION competition are in, and a team of three young women from Jenks won it all.

The competition is sponsored by the U.S. Army, and is administered by the National Science Teachers Association.

Last year, Hayden Hilst, Riya Kaul, and Rebecca Mackey entered as 8th graders.

This year, Team Power Up not only replicated their regional victory, they went on to take first place in the nation.

They won their region, and were one of five teams nationally to compete in the finals.

Their invention uses human kinetic energy - specifically, going through revolving doors - to generate electrical energy, which is then stored in capacitors.

Team member Hayden Hilst tells KRMG they did a lot of work on their winning design.

"We have come up with five different prototypes now, and we finally came up with one that works," she said.

Each of the girls won a total of $9,000 in U.S. Savings Bonds.
