Jenks and Tulsa battle over outlet mall

Tulsa City Councilors say nothing is final

Simon Property Group announced last year they planned to build a 325,000 sq. ft. shopping center near the Turkey Mountain area, but many Tulsans were unhappy with the location and believed the outlet mall would disturb the area too much.

City leaders in Jenks announced Thursday the 53-acre development was now going to be built in the River District.

But Simon Malls has not officially pulled out of the Tulsa project, according to Tulsa City Councilors Jeannie Cue and Connie Dodson.

Jenks called but then cancelled a Simon Malls press conference on Thursday.

City of Tulsa officials plan to meet with reps from Simon Malls next week.

The new outlet mall will be managed by the same company that operates Woodland Hills Mall.
