Identity of man killed in Sand Springs tornado released

His cries for help were too late, but led searchers to his father

The Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office has released the name of the man who died in Wednesday's tornado near Sand Springs.

Arian Christopher Lakey, 41, was the only fatality suffered from the storm which struck west Tulsa County late Wednesday afternoon, destroying dozens of mobile homes and at least one business.

The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office tells KRMG Lakey and his father were trapped beneath debris when they responded to the River Oaks Mobile Home Park.

They managed to extricate both men, but Lakey did not recover from his injuries.

They heard Lakey's cries for help, which led them to his father, who was pinned beneath a propane tank.

His father, however, was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive.

In all, there were 30 people reported injured by the storm.

The Oklahoma Insurance Commission reports more than 1,100 claims for property damage so far have been filed.
