Farmers feeling the effects of flooding in Oklahoma

Too much water, not enough sun

Consistent rain and subsequent flooding is starting to hurt local farmers.

Don Carmichael of Carmichael’s Produce in Bixby told KRMG it was nice at first.

“We needed some water… We probably didn’t need this much.” Carmichael said.

“When it’s wet and cold, stuff don’t grow like it does when the sun shines.” He added.

Now, Carmichael is ready for the skies to clear up.

Of the 18 acres if crops Carmichael planted in one of his fields, he’s afraid he’s lost about two acres of it to flooding.

Carmichael told KRMG business at the store on Memorial just north of 151st Street South has been slower too because of the wet weather.

He remains optimistic that once the rain lets up, he can still plant some late season crops and have a relatively good year.
